With an impressive 35-year track record in the hunting industry, Abel is synonymous with excellence and dedication to the Hunting Industry.

Following the successful sale of the renowned Wintershoek Safaris, which he founded in 1988, to the National Parks Board in 2006, Abel, alongside his wife Karen, acquired land in the Philippolis district.

This marked the beginning of one of South Africa's most notable private game relocations, from Wintershoek to Otterskloof.

​

The name "Otterskloof" elegantly honors the resident Cape Clawless Otters that inhabit the ravines of the farm, adding a unique charm to this remarkable reserve.

​

As a forward-thinking conservationist, Abel has relentlessly worked to rehabilitate the land, restoring it to its natural splendor. This vision is brought to life through the Otterskloof Nature Conservation Programme, an ongoing commitment to preserving and enhancing this precious piece of Africa.

Abel Erasmus Jr. has been immersed in the world of hunting his entire life.

From his childhood at Wintershoek in the 80s and 90s to playing a pivotal role in the game relocation to Otterskloof, he has witnessed and experienced every facet of hunting at Otterskloof.

Abel’s extensive travels across Africa have seen him hunt Cape Buffalo in Zimbabwe and Mozambique, Forest Buffalo in Cameroon, and Hippopotamus in the Zambezi Valley.

With countless hours spent stalking and guiding on the Reserve, there are few areas of Otterskloof that he hasn’t explored.

Adding a new chapter to the Erasmus hunting legacy, Abel's daughter, Lia, is an emerging huntress, bringing a fresh perspective to the family’s proud hunting tradition.
